Cleanup inconsistencies related to (regex) escapes (#19804)
This PR does some generic cleanup to the codebase.

I'm playing with oxfmt and oxlint and noticed some unnecessary escapes.
Might add these dependencies to the project later (and rolldown for
building). But baby steps for now.

## Test plan

1. All tests should still pass

Add support for Vite 8 in @tailwindcss/vite (#19790)
This PR adds support for Vite 8 when using the `@tailwindcss/vite`
package.

From the package's perspective, not a lot had to change, just the `vite`
peer dependency now has an additional `^8.0.0` version range.

Closes: #19789

## Test plan

1. Existing tests pass
2. Manually tested in the `./playgrounds/vite` playground
3. Added Vite 8 integration tests to verify that the plugin works with

## Summary

- Closes https://github.com/tailwindlabs/tailwindcss/issues/19744
- Closes https://github.com/vitejs/vite-plugin-react/issues/1118
- Closes https://github.com/wakujs/waku/issues/1963

The change in https://github.com/tailwindlabs/tailwindcss/pull/19670
didn't take account for server only modules managed by SSR framework.
Forcing full reload for this path breaks server HMR. This PR added a
check to determine whether the same modified file has associated modules
in a different environment module graph to avoid this.

## Test plan

<!--

Explain how you tested your changes. Include the exact commands that you
used to verify the change works and include screenshots/screen
recordings of the update behavior in the browser if applicable.

-->

Added an integration test for React router HDR (server loader hmr). This
test fails on main.

Also the local build is tested on `@vitejs/plugin-rsc` CI and confirmed
the fix https://github.com/vitejs/vite-plugin-react/pull/1132

Fallback to config.createResolver for client and ssr environments in @tailwindcss/vite (#19679)

## Summary

Sometimes even if Vite Envrionment API is available, some plugins are
still override `config.createResolver` function to inject own aliases

Since technically `config.createResolver` was only [properly
deprecated](https://github.com/vitejs/vite/pull/20031) in Vite 7.0.0,
it's still a valid(-ish) to do so, even if it wasn't ever officially
supported

Vite already handles this in its internal css resolvers, but not exposes
the code to do so as part of public API, so I've copied and adapted it

Fixes #19677

## Test plan

Tested by copying built package into my repro from the issue, also ran
vite integration tests

fix: restore full page reload for watched external files on Vite 7.1+ (#19670)
# PR: Fix @source file changes not triggering full page reload on Vite
7.1+

## Description
This PR addresses issue #19637 where template files (PHP, HTML, Blade,
etc.) watched via the `@source` directive fail to trigger a full page
reload when using Vite 7.1 or newer.

## Root Cause
Vite 7.1 introduced the Environment API, which supersedes the legacy
WebSocket API for HMR. Specifically:
- `server.ws.send` is deprecated/ignored for certain external file
updates in favor of `server.hot.send`.
- The `@tailwindcss/vite` plugin currently collects `ViteDevServer`
instances but lacks a `handleHotUpdate` hook to explicitly trigger
reloads for non-module files added via `addWatchFile`.

## Changes
- Implemented a `handleHotUpdate` hook in the `@tailwindcss/vite`
plugin.
- The hook identifies changes to files that are not part of the standard
Vite module graph (e.g., `.php`, `.html`) but are watched by Tailwind.
- Triggers a `full-reload` using the new `server.hot.send` API if
available (Vite 7.1+), with a fallback to `server.ws.send` for backward
compatibility.

## Verification
- Reproduced the issue in a standalone Vite 7.1.0 project using a mock
plugin with the legacy API.
- Confirmed that the browser fails to reload upon editing a watched
`.php` file.
- Verified that migrating to `server.hot.send` restores the expected
reload behavior.

Add @tailwindcss/webpack loader for Tailwind CSS v4 (#19610)
## Summary

This PR adds a new `@tailwindcss/webpack` package that provides a
dedicated webpack loader for Tailwind CSS v4. This loader works with
both standard webpack and Turbopack's webpack loader compatibility
layer.

### Why a dedicated loader?

The current webpack integration uses `postcss-loader` +
`@tailwindcss/postcss`. While this works, a dedicated loader:

- **Eliminates PostCSS as a middleman** - works directly with CSS
strings (no AST conversions)
- **Simpler and more efficient** - follows the same pattern as
`@tailwindcss/vite`
- **Better for Turbopack** - gives direct control over dependency
reporting via webpack's loader API

### How it works

The loader mirrors the Vite plugin's approach:

1. Uses `compile()` from `@tailwindcss/node` to parse CSS and resolve
`@apply` directives
2. Uses `Scanner` from `@tailwindcss/oxide` to scan content files for
utility candidates
3. Reports dependencies via `this.addDependency()` and
`this.addContextDependency()`
4. Optionally optimizes output with Lightning CSS

### Usage

```javascript
// webpack.config.js
module.exports = {
  module: {
    rules: [
      {
        test: /.css$/i,
        use: [
          MiniCssExtractPlugin.loader,
          'css-loader',
          '@tailwindcss/webpack',  // No PostCSS needed!
        ],
      },
    ],
  },
}
```

### Options

- `base` - The base directory to scan for class candidates (defaults to
`process.cwd()`)
- `optimize` - Whether to optimize/minify the output CSS (defaults to
`true` in production)

### Files added

- `packages/@tailwindcss-webpack/` - New package
  - `src/index.ts` - Main loader implementation
  - `src/index.cts` - CommonJS entry point for webpack compatibility
  - `package.json`, `tsconfig.json`, `tsup.config.ts`, `README.md`
- `integrations/webpack/loader.test.ts` - Integration tests
- `integrations/utils.ts` - Added webpack override for transitive
dependencies

### Test plan

- [x] Build test - verifies basic compilation
- [x] Watch test - verifies HMR when adding new Tailwind classes
- [x] `@apply` test - verifies `@apply` directives work correctly
- [x] Optimization test - verifies minification works

Improve compatibility with special default values in JS configs (#19348)
Fixes #19345

In v3 the `ringColor.DEFAULT` option was used as the default color for
ring utilities (when it was defined). This currently gets translated as
`--ring-color` but that doesn't work this way in v4. Instead it should
translate to `--default-ring-color` and *not* `--ring-color`.

I've also tweaked the upgrade tool to handle this properly as well.

Fix source map generation during when watching files on the CLI (#19373)
Fixes #19362

We were overwriting the source map with the "decoded" map returned by
the compiler but didn't wrap it in the helper intended to help inline vs
file maps. This resulted in two issues:
1. `undefined` being appended to the CSS file when using `--map`
2. `undefined` being passed to `writeFile(…)` when using `--map <file>`

This PR fixes both.

Bump Vitest to v4 (#19216)
This PR bumps Vitest from v2 to v4. As far as I know we don't use any
Vitest specific features in our tests, but had to upgrade the
`vitest.workspace.ts` file to a `vitest.config.ts` file instead.

The only features we use are the typical `describe`, `it`, `test`, and
`expect` functions.

The only other part we use is `vi.spyOn` and `vi.fn` but those didn't
change in API either.

The test shards were removed to prevent errors. Not all suites have
enough files / tests to be broken up into 3 parts so Vitest now errors
when that happens.

### Test plan

1. All tests should pass in CI.
2. All integration tests should pass in CI.

Don’t unconditionally convert config keys to kebab-case (#19337)
Fixes #18114
Closes #18115

This PR changes JS config handling such that we always preserve casing
for theme keys (when possible).

Now there are *two* exceptions to this rule:

1. Top-level keys in the theme *do* get converted to kebab-case. As CSS
variables are not generated from these this shouldn't be a big issue.

All of our internal plugins look for kebab-case keys. So, for example,
take the path `backgroundColor.red.500`. This must translate to
`--background-color-red-500`. But if you had something like
`backgroundColor.lightBlue` it would be perfectly fine for that to
translate to `--background-color-lightBlue` internally (and thus the
utility be written as `bg-lightBlue`.

2. Tuple object keys are converted to kebab-case as well.

These keys are converted to "nested" key syntax internally and
typtically represent CSS property names.

For example:
```js
export default {
  theme: {
    fontSize: {
      xs: ["1.5rem", { lineHeight: "1.3" }]
    },
    fontFamily: {
      sans: ["Potato Mono", { fontVariationSettings: '"XHGT" 0.7' }]
    }
  }
}
```

The `lineHeight` key here must be converted to `line-height` because it
represents a CSS property name. The theme key that represents this value
is `--text-xs--line-height`. The same situation applies for the
`fontVariationSettings` where the theme key is
`--font-sans--font-variation-settings`.

Basically we were correctly resolving the path given to `source()`

Fix incorrect colors used in pseudo-element (#19184)
This PR essentially reverts
https://github.com/tailwindlabs/tailwindcss/pull/19069

We added the nested `&` inside the `@supports` query when we create
fallbacks for color-mix so that devtools (Safari) doesn't freak out.
This works in most cases, however, if you have a parent pseudo element
like `::before`, then the browser will not allow the nested `&`
resulting in invalid CSS.

This PR means that we go back to the broken devtools experience in
Safari, but at least the CSS is valid and works as expected.

Ignore --tw- variables during internal signature computation (#19156)
This PR improves some of the signature computation logic. Right now,
when you want to convert `[font-weight:400]` to `font-normal` it's not
going to work because the signatures don't like up:

```css
/* [font-weight:400] */
.x {
  font-weight: 400;
}
/* font-normal */
.x {
  --tw-font-weight: 400;
  font-weight: 400;
}
```

So this PR essentially ignores `--tw-{property}` _if_ the `{property}`
exists with the exact same value.

The main reason we have this, is to make composition of utilities
easier.

As with any of these upgrades, they are the expected behavior in most
cases, but there could always be a case where you don't want this, but
that's why the upgrade tool requires you to review each change before
applying it. Intellisense will recommend the simplified class, but it's
up to you to decide if you want to apply it or not.

There is a known edge case for `leading-{num}`, because the property is
`line-height` and the CSS variable is `--tw-leading`. Right now we map
`--tw-leading` to `line-height` but we can also update the leading
classes to use `--tw-line-height` instead but that feels like a bigger
breaking change _if_ people rely on these internal CSS variables...

Fix Safari devtools issues because of nested @supports at-rules without normal rule (#19069)
This PR fixes a weird Safari rendering bug in the devtools. This seems
to be happening when using `@supports`, especially nested `@supports`
at-rules.

The issue is that our color-mix fallback generates declarations directly
in `@supports` at-rules which causes the weird rendering bug in Safari.

Adding this intermediate `&` rule seems to fix the issue.

This is a workaround for a browser bug, but the additional 3 characters
shouldn't be the end of the world.

## Test plan

1. Updated the tests with the new `& { }` intermediate rule
2. Other tests still pass as expected

The vite/nuxt integration tests started failing because one of the

`node:sqlite`.

`node:sqlite` was added in a newer Node version, and we still use Node

This PR pins `nuxi` to `3.28.0` until we can upgrade our Node version in

Show version mismatch when running upgrade tool (#19028)
This PR fixes an issue where sometimes people try to run the upgrade
tool, reset the changes and then try again.

If this happens, then the `package.json` and/or your lock file will
point to the old Tailwind CSS v3 version, but the actual installed
version will be v4.

This will also cause the upgrade tool to now upgrade from v4 to v4,
which is not what most people want if they were trying to upgrade from
v3 to v4. This in turn will cause some issues because now we won't try
to migrate the config file, or v3-specific classes that also exist in v4
but are only safe to upgrade from v3 to v4.

This PR uses `npm ls tailwindcss` to determine the actual installed
version. This command already errors if there is a mismatch between the
installed version and the version in `package.json` or the lock file.
This also happens to work in pnpm and bun projects (added integration
tests for these).

If for whatever reason we can't determine the expected version, we fall
back to the old behavior of just upgrading. In this scenario, the
changes introduced in
https://github.com/tailwindlabs/tailwindcss/pull/19026 will at least
give you a hint of what version was actually installed.

### Test plan

1. Tested it in a v3 project where I performed the following steps:
   1. Run the upgrade tool in full (`npx tailwindcss-upgrade`)
   2. Reset the changes (`git reset --hard && git clean -df`)
   1. Run the upgrade tool again

This resulted in the following output: <img width="1059" height="683"
alt="image"
src="https://github.com/user-attachments/assets/1d2ea2d1-b602-4631-958f-cc21eb8a633f"
/>

2. Added some integration tests to make sure this also works in pnpm,
bun and normal npm projects.

Migrate supports theme keys (#18817)
This PR is a follow up of #18815 and #18816, but this time let's migrate
the `supports` theme keys.

Let's imagine you have the following Tailwind CSS v3 configuration:
```ts
export default {
  content: ['./src/**/*.html'],
  theme: {
    extend: {
      supports: {
        // Automatically handled by bare values (using CSS variable as the value)
        foo: 'foo: var(--foo)', // parentheses are optional
        bar: '(bar: var(--bar))',
        // Not automatically handled because names differ
        baz: 'qux: var(--foo)',
   //   ^^^   ^^^       ← different names
        // Custom
        grid: 'display: grid',
      },
    },
  },
}
```

Then we would generate the following Tailwind CSS v4 CSS:

```css
@custom-variant supports-baz {
  @supports (qux: var(--foo)) {
    @slot;
  }
}
@custom-variant supports-grid {
  @supports (display: grid) {
    @slot;
  }
}
```

Notice how we didn't generate a custom variant for `data-foo` or
`data-bar` because those are automatically handled by bare values.

I also went with the longer form of `@custom-variant`, we could use the
single selector approach, but that felt less clear to me.

```css
@custom-variant supports-baz (@supports (qux: var(--foo)));
@custom-variant supports-grid (@supports (display: grid));
```

Migrate data theme keys (#18816)
This PR is similar to and a follow up of #18815, but this time to
migrate the `data` theme keys.

Let's imagine you have the following Tailwind CSS v3 configuration:
```ts
export default {
  content: ['./src/**/*.html'],
  theme: {
    extend: {
      data: {
        // Automatically handled by bare values
        foo: 'foo',
    //  ^^^   ^^^       ← same names
        // Not automatically handled by bare values
        bar: 'baz',
    //  ^^^   ^^^       ← different names
        // Completely custom
        checked: 'ui~="checked"',
      },
    },
  },
}
```

Then we would generate the following Tailwind CSS v4 CSS:

```css
@custom-variant data-bar (&[data-baz]);
@custom-variant data-checked (&[data-ui~="checked"]);
```

Notice how we didn't generate a custom variant for `data-foo` because
those are automatically handled by bare values.

Migrate aria theme keys (#18815)
This PR migrates `aria` theme keys when migrating from Tailwind CSS v3
to v4.

While working on improving some of the error messages to get more
insights into why migrating the JS file changed
(https://github.com/tailwindlabs/tailwindcss/pull/18808), I ran into an
issue where I couldn't think of a good comment to why `aria` theme keys
were not being migrated. (Internally we have `aria` "blocked").

So instead of figuring out a good error message..., I just went ahead
and added the migration for `aria` theme keys.

Let's imagine you have the following Tailwind CSS v3 configuration:
```ts
export default {
  content: ['./src/**/*.html'],
  theme: {
    extend: {
      aria: {
        // Built-in (not really, but visible because of intellisense)
        busy: 'busy="true"',
        // Automatically handled by bare values
        foo: 'foo="true"',
    //  ^^^   ^^^            ← same names
        // Not automatically handled by bare values because names differ
        bar: 'baz="true"',
    //  ^^^   ^^^            ← different names
        // Completely custom
        asc: 'sort="ascending"',
        desc: 'sort="descending"',
      },
    },
  },
}
```

Then we would generate the following Tailwind CSS v4 CSS:

```css
@custom-variant aria-bar (&[aria-baz="true"]);
@custom-variant aria-asc (&[aria-sort="ascending"]);
@custom-variant aria-desc (&[aria-sort="descending"]);
```

Notice how we didn't generate a custom variant for `aria-busy` or
`aria-foo` because those are automatically handled by bare values.

We could also emit a comment near the CSS to warn about the fact that
`@custom-variant` will always be sorted _after_ any other built-in
variants.

This could result in slightly different behavior, or different order of
classes when using `prettier-plugin-tailwindcss`.

I don't know how important this is, because before this PR we would just
use `@config './tailwind.config.js';`.
Edit: when using the `@config` we override `aria` and extend it, which
means that it would be in the expected order 🤔

Allow users to disable url rewriting in the PostCSS plugin (#18321)
Since we (optionally) support source maps now it's possible that a later
PostCSS plugin that *still* does url rewriting might fail to do so
correctly because nodes will have preserved source locations in dev
builds where before we "pretended" that everything came from the
original file.

But, because we can't know if such a plugin is present, disabling this
behavior when source maps are enabled could cause issues *and* would be
a breaking change.

I wish everything *could just work* here but realistically we can't know
what plugins have run before our PostCSS plugin or what plugins will run
after so the best option (I think) we can offer here is to allow users
to disable url rewriting at the plugin level.

Center the dropdown icon added to an input with a paired datalist in Chrome (#18511)
This PR tweaks the dropdown arrow added to an input by Chrome when it
has a `list` attribute pointing to a `<datalist>`.

Right now the arrow isn't centered vertically:

<img width="227" height="58" alt="Screenshot 2025-07-14 at 15 41 50"
src="https://github.com/user-attachments/assets/b354a5e8-432d-432d-bfe4-f7b6f6683548"
/>

The cause of this is the line height being inherited into the pseudo
element which controls how the marker is positioned. I *think* this is
because it's being drawn with unicode symbols but I'm not sure. It could
just be from the `list-item` display.

After this PR changes the line height its centered again:

<img width="227" height="58" alt="Screenshot 2025-07-14 at 15 42 05"
src="https://github.com/user-attachments/assets/1afa1f33-cc28-4b1f-9e04-e546f6848f57"
/>

Some notes:

This only affects Chrome and also does not appear to cause issues for
date/time inputs. While weird that this pseudo is the one used for a
`<datalist>` marker it is indeed correct.

feat: add Vite 7 support to the @tailwindcss/vite plugin (#18384)
Closes #18381

* [Changelog for Vite 7.0.0
(2025-06-24)](https://github.com/vitejs/vite/blob/main/packages/vite/CHANGELOG.md#700-2025-06-24)

Starting from Vite 7, Node 18 support will be dropped, which doesn't
really affect Tailwind. It might be worth mentioning in the
documentation that the recommended minimum Node versions are 20.19 and
22.12.

Vite 7 is only available in ESM format, which is also not an issue.

Vite's browser support aligns with the v4 guidelines:
```
Chrome 87 → 107       (tw: 111)
Edge 88 → 107         (tw: 111)
Firefox 78 → 104      (tw: 128)
Safari 14.0 → 16.0    (tw: 16.4)
```
* [Vite 7 - Browser
Support](https://vite.dev/guide/migration.html#default-browser-target-change)
* [Tailwind CSS v4 - Browser
Support](https://tailwindcss.com/docs/compatibility#browser-support)

So, at first glance, there's nothing more to do except enabling support
for these versions.

Improve error messages when @apply fails (#18059)
This PR improves error messages when `@apply` fails. Right now it gives
you a generic error message that you cannot apply a certain utility.

```css
.foo {
  @apply bg-red-500;
}
```

Would result in:
```
Cannot apply unknown utility class: bg-red-500
```

However, there are some situations where we can give you more context
about what's happening.

### Missing `@import "tailwindcss"` or `@reference`

If you are in a Vue file for example, and you have the following code:
```vue
<template>
  <div class="foo"></div>
</template>
<style>
.foo {
  @apply bg-red-500;
}
</style>
```

Then this will now result in:
```
Cannot apply unknown utility class `bg-white`. Are you using CSS modules or similar and missing `@reference`? https://tailwindcss.com/docs/functions-and-directives#reference-directive
```

We do this by checking if we found a `@tailwind utilities` or
`@reference`. If not, we throw this more specific error.

### Explicitly excluded classes via `@source not inline('…')`

Or via the legacy `blocklist` from a JS config.

If you then have the following file:
```css
@import "tailwindcss";
@source not inline('bg-white');
.foo {
  @apply bg-white;
}
```

Then this will now result in:
```
Cannot apply utility class `bg-white` because it has been explicitly disabled: https://tailwindcss.com/docs/detecting-classes-in-source-files#explicitly-excluding-classes
```

We do this by checking if the class was marked as invalid.

### Applying unprefixed class in prefix mode

If you have the prefix option configured, but you are applying a
non-prefixed class, then we will show the following error:

Given this input:
```css
@import "tailwindcss" prefix(tw);
.foo {
  @apply underline;
}
```

The following error is thrown:
```
Cannot apply unprefixed utility class `underline`. Did you mean `tw:underline`?
```

### Applying known utilities with unknown variants

If you have unknown variants, then we will list them as well if the base
utility does compile correctly.

Given this input:

```css
@import "tailwindcss";
.foo {
  @apply hocus:hover:pocus:bg-red-500;
}
```

The following error is thrown:
```
Cannot apply utility class `hocus:hover:pocus:bg-red-500` because the `hocus` and `pocus` variants do not exist.
```

## Test plan

1. Everything behaves the same, but the error messages give more
details.
2. Updated tests with new error messages
3. Added new unit tests to verify the various scenarios
4. Added a Vue specific integration test with a `<style>…</style>` block
using `@apply`

[ci-all] There are some newlines here and there, let's verify that they
work identically on all platforms.

Improve @tailwindcss/upgrade and pnpm workspaces support (#18065)
This PR fixes an issue where an error such as:

<img width="1702" alt="image"
src="https://github.com/user-attachments/assets/4e6f75c7-3182-4497-939e-96cff08c55ae"
/>

Will be thrown during the upgrade process. This can happen when you are
using `pnpm` and your CSS file includes a `@import "tailwindcss";`. In
this scenario, `tailwindcss` will be loaded from a shared `.pnpm` folder
outside of the current working directory.

In this case, we are also not interested in migrating _that_ file, but
we also don't want the upgrade process to just crash.

I didn't see an option to ignore errors like this, so wrapped it in a
try/catch instead.

It also fixes another issue where if you are using a pnpm workspace and
run the upgrade tool from the root, then it throws you an error that you
cannot add dependencies to the workspace root unless `-w` or
`--workspace-root` flags are passed.

For this, we disable the check entirely using the
`--ignore-workspace-root-check` flag. If we always used the
`--workspace-root` flag, then the dependencies would always be added to
the root, regardless of where you are running the script from which is
not what we want.

Do not migrate declarations in <style> blocks (#18057)
This PR improves the upgrade tool by making sure that we don't migrate
CSS declarations in `<style>…</style>` blocks.

We do this by making sure that:

1. We detect a declaration, the current heuristic is that the candidate
is:
   - Preceded by whitespace
   - Followed by a colon and whitespace

   ```html
   <style>
   .foo {
       flex-shrink: 0;
      ^           ^^
   }
   </style>
   ```

2. We are in a `<style>…</style>` block

   ```html
   <style>
   ^^^^^^
   .foo {
       flex-shrink: 0;
   }
   </style>
   ^^^^^^^^
   ```

The reason we have these 2 checks is because just relying on the first
heuristic alone, also means that we will not be migrating keys in JS
objects, because they typically follow the same structure:

```js
let classes = {
 flex: 0,
^    ^^
}
```

Another important thing to note is that we can't just ignore anything in
between `<style>…</style>` blocks, because you could still be using
`@apply` that we _do_ want to migrate.

Last but not least, the first heuristics is not perfect either. If you
are writing minified CSS then this will likely fail if there is no
whitespace around the candidate.

But my current assumption is that nobody should be writing minified CSS,
and minified CSS will very likely be generated and gitignored. In either
situation, replacements in minified CSS will not be any worse than it is
today.

I'm open to suggestions for better heuristics.

## Test plan

1. Added an integration test that verifies that we do migrate `@apply`
and don't migrate the `flex-shrink: 0;` declaration.

Make candidate template migrations faster (#18025)
This PR makes the migrations for templates much faster. To make this
work, I also had to move things around a bit (so you might want to check
this PR commit by commit). I also solved an issue by restructuring the
code.

### Performance

For starters, we barely applied any caching when migrating candidates
from α to β. The problem with this is that in big projects the same
candidates will appear _everywhere_, so caching is going to be useful
here.

One of the reasons why we didn't do any caching is that some migrations
were checking if a migration is actually safe to do. To do this, we were
checking the `location` (the location of the candidate in the template).
Since this location is unique for each template, caching was not
possible.

So the first order of business was to hoist the `isSafeMigration` check
up as the very first thing we do in the migration.

If we do this first, then the only remaining code relies on the
`DesignSystem`, `UserConfig` and `rawCandidate`.

In a project, the `DesignSystem` and `UserConfig` will be the same
during the migration, only the `rawCandidate` will be different which
means that we can move all this logic in a good old `DefaultMap` and
cache the heck out of it.

Running the numbers on our Tailwind Plus repo, this results in:
```
    Total seen candidates: 2 211 844
Total migrated candidates: 7 775
               Cache hits: 1 575 700
```

That's a lot of work we _don't_ have to do. Looking at the timings, the
template migration step goes from ~45s to ~10s because of this.

Another big benefit of this is that this makes migrations _actually_
safe. Before we were checking if a migration was safe to do in specific
migrations. But other migrations were still printing the candidate which
could still result in an unsafe migration.

For example when migrating the `blur` and the `shadow` classes, the
`isSafeMigration` was used. But if the input was `!flex` then the safety
check wasn't even checked in this specific migration.

### Safe migrations

Also made some changes to the `isSafeMigration` logic itself. We used to
start by checking the location, but thinking about the problem again,
the actual big problem we were running into is classes that are short
like `blur`, and `shadow` because they could be used in other contexts
than a Tailwind CSS class.

Inverting this logic means that more specific Tailwind CSS classes will
very likely _not_ cause any issues at all.

For example:
- If you have variants: `hover:focus:flex`
- If you have arbitrary properties: `[color:red]`
- If you have arbitrary values: `bg-[red]`
- If you have a modifier: `bg-red-500/50`
- If you have a `-` in the name: `bg-red-500`

Even better if we can't parse a candidate at all, we can skip the
migrations all together.

This brings us to the issue in #17974, one of the issues was already
solved by just hoisting the `isSafeMigration`. But to make the issue was
completely solved I also made sure that in Vue attributes like
`:active="…"` are also considered unsafe (note: `:class` is allowed).

Last but not least, in case of the `!duration` that got replaced with
`duration!` was solved by verifying that the candidate actually produces
valid CSS. We can compute the signature for this class.

The reason this wasn't thrown away earlier is because we can correctly
parse `duration` but `duration` on its own doesn't exist,
`duration-<number>` does exist as a functional utility which is why it
parsed in the first place.

Fixes: #17974

## Test plan

1. Ran the tool on our Tailwind UI Templates repo to compare the new
output with the "old" behavior and there were no differences in output.
2. Ran the tool on our Tailwind Plus repo, and the template migration
step went from ~45s to ~10s.
3. Added additional tests to verify the issues in #17974 are fixed.

Download platform specific package if optionalDependencies are skipped (#17929)
Closes #15806

This PR adds a new `postinstall` script to `@tailwindcss/oxide` that
will attempt to download the platform-specific optional dependency to
avoid issues when the package manager does not do that automatically
(see #15806). The implementation for this is fairly simple: The npm
package is downloaded from the official npm servers and extracted into
the `node_modules` directory of the `@tailwidncss/oxide` installation.

## Test plan

Since we still lack a solid repro of #15806, the way I tested this
change was to manually remove all automatically-installed optional
dependencies and then running the postinstall script manually. The
script then downloads the right version package which makes the import
to `@tailwidncss/oxide` work. An appropriate integration test was added
too.

I furthermore also validated that:

- This works across CI platforms [ci-all]
- The postinstall script bails out when running `pnpm install` in the
dev setup. This is necessary since doing the initial install won't have
any binary dependencies yet so it would download invalid versions from
npm (as the version numbers locally refer to the last released version).
We can safely bail out here though since this was never an issue with
local development.
- The postinstall script does not do anything when the
`@tailwindcss/oxide` library is added _unless_ the issue is detected.

[ci-all]
